Hiking Club

West Heights will be offering an afterschool Hiking Club for students Grade 3 thru 6.

Join Mr. Ritter Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:30 pm to explore the local hiking trails. We have several local

hiking areas, Bear Mountain, Red Mountain and Heritage Park, which provide great opportunities to

explore nature and exercise at the same time. Parent volunteers will be needed for drop off and supervision. Students will learn about local plant life, animal awareness and respectful ways to intreract with the environment.

Parent Volunteers will transport studetns to a local hiking stop. Parents will be responsible for pick up from the weekly location at 4:30 pm. A schedule will be provided with the hiking area and pick up spots for each month.

We will be hiking rain or shine so proper gear is necessary. Good supportive ruunners are best for hiking (flip flops and sandals are not acceptable). It is best to dress in layers that can be taken off and carried if need. A light rain jacket is also recommended for rainy day hikes.

There are some risks associated with participating in activities such as hiking. It is possible that your child may injure themselves during this school event. Each cild must have signed off-site activity permission slip before joining hiking club.

Due to safety concerns, students who demonstrate dangerous or disrespectful behaviors on a hike will not be able to join in the future.

If you have any concerns about the Hiking Club, please contact me (Mrt. Ritter) at 604-557-8076 or pop by the school.

Come and explore your Neighbourhood Parks and Mountains !
